360/OPEN SUMMIT: THE WORLD IN MOTION - HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT WE KNOW? THE CRISIS IN XINJIANG - What is the evidentiary basis for knowledge of the ongoing human rights crisis in Xinjiang? What methods can we employ to conduct rigorous analysis even as the Chinese government tries to prevent us from doing so? This talk will look at the types of evidence we have, why it is reliable, if not necessarily precise, and how the Chinese government strategically limits access to the region to both stop news from leaking out and to sow doubt about any narratives other than its own.
