360/OPEN SUMMIT: THE WORLD IN MOTION - WATCHING ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP—IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGY, BIOMETRICS, AND THE LAW - The collection and use of information in virtual and augmented reality is a dangerously unregulated space—essentially a “like button on steroids.” When the information necessary to run a VR device is combined with biometric data, the results can be akin to reading someone’s mind. Brittan Heller will discuss technological risks and legal failures to address these potential harms through her theory of “biometric psychography,” emphasizing how virtual and augmented reality should take a human rights-based approach to protecting user privacy.
