BOOK LAUNCH: NO COUNTRY FOR LOVE - Yaroslav Trofimov is the author of three books of narrative nonfiction and one novel. He has worked around the world as a foreign correspondent of the Wall Street Journal since 1999 and as chief foreign affairs correspondent since 2018. Born in Ukraine, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in international reporting in 2023 and 2022.
In his debut novel, No Country for Love, Trofimov mixes historical fiction and journalistic storytelling in a narrative spanning Ukrainian history. From the 1930s to World War II to the post-Stalin era, Trofimov weaves a story following a young woman caught between two totalitarian ideologies in Kharkiv, Ukraine and the tough choices she makes to protect the ones she loves most.
The event features a discussion moderated by Jacob Heilbrunn, nonresident senior fellow at the Eurasia Center and editor of the National Interest, Yaroslav Trofimov, author of No Country for Love, on the significance of Ukraine’s historical struggle against authoritarianism amid Russia’s continued aggression.
