EUROPE WITHOUT RUSSIAN GAS: A LASTING LEGACY OF THE WAR - Gas is a weapon in Russia’s war against Ukraine, used by the Kremlin to threaten Ukraine’s supporters in Europe while also raising revenue for its war machine. Europe and its allies have worked swiftly to reorient the continent’s energy system away from Russian gas by securing alternative supplies and investing in a cleaner and more efficient energy system. What lessons can transatlantic allies draw from the last sixteen months of energy diversification? What are the greatest barriers to the transformation of Europe’s energy system towards a secure, resilient, net-zero future? How can the United States and Europe proactively overcome the challenges of transitioning to an energy-secure, low-carbon economy?
