360/STRATCOM 2022 - THE EUROPEAN UNION’S APPROACH TO TECH GOVERNANCE - This year, the European Union launched the first-of-its-kind, comprehensive regulatory framework for governing digital services. After years of conception, drafting, and negotiation, the Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) have officially entered into force. As the EU now turns to the hard work of implementation, we welcome Gerard Degraaf — the head of the EU’s new Silicon Valley Office — and Prabhat Agarwal —the “Digital Services and Platforms” lead for the European Commission — back to DFRLab for an update on what comes next. These two key drafters of the twin regulations will discuss how the EU is now approaching its global role as standard bearer, how companies are reacting, and the global challenges they see on the horizon.
