360/OPEN SUMMIT: THE WORLD IN MOTION - DISINFORMATION IN AFRICA - From South Africa’s GuptaBots, to Uganda’s fake SevoLution accounts, and to Nigeria’s disinformation-for-hire influencers, disinformation is rampant on the African continent despite often being considered a Western problem. In this session, we will hear from journalists and researchers who report on how disinformation hampers democracy on the continent, including some who have been targeted by their government for using social media and speaking out, giving the rest of the world a better sense of what it can learn from Africa’s experiences with disinformation.
