360/OPEN SUMMIT: THE WORLD IN MOTION - BATTLE FOR THE ITU AND WHY YOU SHOULD CARE - A significant effort led by China and supported by Russia and a few other states, on the technology standardization front, has been directed towards coming up with a new architecture for the global Internet called “New IP.” The stewards of these proposals are trying hard to push elements of this new global architecture of the Internet through various study groups at the ITU-T—the UN agency in charge of setting standards for telecommunications services, and devices. This lighting talk will provide a brief overview of the NewIP proposal, of the key concerns, and the potential impact it may have on the global Internet.
