THE RESURGENCE OF INDUSTRIAL POLICY: NAVIGATING TRADE-OFFS AND OPPORTUNITIES - Join us for an event at Atlantic Council headquarters, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will launch a chapter from the forthcoming World Economic Outlook that analyzes the impact of the resurgence of industrial policy.
Countries are increasingly turning to industrial policy to reshape their economies as it can help boost productivity, reduce reliance on imports, and enhance resilience. But while industrial policy presents such opportunities, there are also trade-offs associated with it. Onshoring production in strategic sectors can raise consumer prices for extended periods and require significant fiscal spending. For industrial policy to succeed, it requires precise targeting and implementation, strong institutions, complementary structural reforms, and sound macroeconomic management.
This event takes place ahead of the IMF-World Bank Annual meetings. Click here to learn more about Atlantic Council programming that week.
