THE AGE OF ECONOMIC WARFARE: BEHIND US SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA, CHINA, AND IRAN - The United States has leveraged its financial and technological dominance to confront authoritarian regimes such as Russia, China, and Iran. Coercive measures including sanctions have become tools of first resort in addressing geopolitical crises. However, the use (and overuse) of these tools has ramifications for the global financial system and economy.
The Atlantic Council’s Economic Statecraft Initiative is pleased to host the launch of Edward Fishman’s book Chokepoints: American Power in the Age of Economic Warfare.
In this new book, Fishman, a former State Department sanctions official, takes a deep dive into the past two decades of US foreign policy and provides an insider’s perspective on how economic warfare has reshaped global power dynamics. At this event, Fishman—in conversation with Kim Donovan, director of the Atlantic Council’s Economic Statecraft Initiative—and a panel of experts in the field of economic statecraft will discuss the practical and strategic implications of economic warfare in today’s interconnected world.
