FIRESIDE CHAT WITH MARGARITIS SCHINAS, EUROPEAN COMMISSION VICE-PRESIDENT - The Atlantic Council’s Europe Center hosted a fireside chat with H.E. Margaritis Schinas, European Commission Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life. This event took place virtually on Thursday, June 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET. The conversation focused on transatlantic relations through the prism of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, highlighting key aspects of the Vice-President’s portfolio such as strengthening resilience in critical sectors, cyber security, and migration.
As the Russian war in Ukraine continued into its fourth month, the European Union had been responding to both humanitarian and security crises. On the humanitarian front, the majority of the 6.6 million Ukrainian refugees were fleeing to Poland, Romania, and Hungary. At the same time, Russian cyber-attacks threatened Europe’s critical infrastructure and require mechanisms for prevention. Vice-President Schinas joined the Council to discuss Europe’s response to these issues, their transatlantic implications, and the future of transatlantic cooperation in these areas.
