INFLATION, RATE HIKES AND RECESSION RISKS: A TEST FOR EUROPE’S ECONOMY - Four months after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine and more than two years after the first Covid-19 lockdowns, European leaders were dealing with a fresh set of economic challenges. Record-high inflation in the Eurozone forced the European Central Bank to prepare to raise rates for the first time in eleven years, knowing that there are already recession risks lurking around the world.
How will the European economy react to tighter monetary policy? Will high inflation divert the EU from its attempts to bolster Strategic Autonomy? Could this spur closer cooperation with the United States? How will these challenges influence the agendas of the freshly (re-)elected French and German governments?
To discuss all this, the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center was honored to be host Ludovic Subran, Chief Economist of Allianz and a Swiss Army knife commentator on all matters economic and political, on Tuesday, June 21st from 9:30 to 10:30 am ET.
