ACCELERATING THE TRANSITION: HOW THE FIRST MOVERS COALITION IS DRIVING DECARBONIZATION IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR - The discussion featured Lauren Riley, Managing Director of Global Environmental Affairs and Sustainability for United Airlines; Varun Sivaram, Senior Director for Clean Energy and Innovation for US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry; and Pamela Venzke, Head of Corporate Affairs for Orsted North America Offshore. David L. Goldwyn, Chairman of the Atlantic Council Energy Advisory Group, moderated.
Much of the technology key to the energy transition is not yet available at commercial scale, and in order to bring these innovations to market, cultivating demand is essential. This requires the alignment of policy and industry to mobilize innovation and accelerate adoption. The First Movers Coalition, an effort led by the US State Department and driven by more than 30 companies, seeks to enable the commercialization of emerging technologies in hard-to-abate sectors by 2030. In this Atlantic Council event, government and industry leaders that are taking the steps to create demand for these technologies discussed the role of the Coalition and the progress made thus far.
