EVALUATING THE US-COLOMBIA COMMERCIAL RELATIONSHIP - Join the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center as it hosts a conversation assessing the US-Colombia commercial relationship. This discussion will mark the launch of the issue brief “Trade with Colombia is big business for US exporters—amid growing Chinese influence in Latin America,” which examines the longstanding importance of the US-Colombia economic ties, the role of the Trade Promotion Agreement, and the implications of increasing Chinese involvement in the country.
The United States and Colombia share a longstanding, mutually beneficial trade relationship, with bilateral trade reaching $36.7 billion in 2024. However, shifting global economic and political dynamics—including diplomatic tensions between Washington and the Petro administration and China’s expanding influence—pose threats to this relationship.
This virtual event will explore the value of the US-Colombia trade relationship for both countries, addressing tensions and opportunities in the commercial relationship. Panelists will also discuss long-term prospects for trade relations, highlighting strategies to strengthen economic ties ahead of a change in government in Bogota in 2026.
