On June 2, Claudia Sheinbaum, the former head of the government of Mexico City, won Mexico’s presidential election in a landslide, making her the first woman to hold the office.
Jason Marczak and Bosco Marti of the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center write that the victory means “Sheinbaum will assume office in October with not only a sizable domestic mandate, but also with an opportunity to deepen Mexico’s engagement beyond its borders.”
