Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis on Russia’s war and The Hague summit
SENATORS JEANNE SHAHEEN AND THOM TILLIS ON RUSSIA’S WAR AND THE HAGUE SUMMIT - Join the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center and the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security‘s Transatlantic Security Initiative for a fireside discussion featuring Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC).
From June 24 to 26, heads of state and government from across the globe will travel to The Hague for the 2025 NATO Summit to discuss the most pressing challenges to transatlantic security today. At this year’s summit, defense spending and defense industrial issues will likely take center stage—with the Alliance promising a new defense-spending threshold as a key deliverable. The Alliance must translate these conversations into real and concrete action in order to sharpen NATO’s warfighting edge.
Yet Russia’s ongoing war in Europe casts a shadow across The Hague summit as Ukraine continues to fight for its sovereignty and right to a democratic and prosperous future free of Russian aggression. While the United States seeks a resolution to Russia’s war against Ukraine and European allies ramp up their own support, the Alliance must cohere a united approach toward Russia’s war.
Shaheen and Tillis, co-chairs of the US Senate NATO Observer Group, will join Punchbowl News’ Andrew Desiderio for a conversation on the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague and US policy on Russia and Ukraine.
