WHAT IS DRIVING PROTESTS IN THE WESTERN BALKANS FROM BELGRADE TO TIRANA - Join the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center for a conversation on the origins and geopolitical stakes of the ongoing protests in the Western Balkans.

Over the past several weeks, Albania has seen its largest protests in thirty-five years, triggered by a Jared Kushner–linked luxury resort development on protected wetlands in Zvërnec. Serbia’s student movement, meanwhile, has sustained months of pressure on the government in response to the Novi Sad tragedy in November 2024.

The Europe Center, as part of its Balkans Forward Initiative, will convene experts to discuss how these movements are reshaping the democratic landscape of the Western Balkans and raising questions beyond the region.
