A CONVERSATION WITH TÁNAISTE AND MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS & DEFENSE OF IRELAND MICHEÁL MARTIN - The Atlantic Council’s Europe Center is delighted to host this conversation with Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Defense of Ireland Micheál Martin.
As Ireland marks 100 years of diplomatic relations with the United States, the Tánaiste will reflect on Ireland’s record as an active, independent and vocal member of the international community. The discussion will cover positive developments in Northern Ireland, as well as Ireland’s commitment to human rights and defending the rules-based international system in the context of the war in Ukraine and in the Middle East.
Ireland’s foreign policy, reflecting its own history and experience of peace making, continues to be grounded in principles of human rights, equality, respect, dialogue and engagement. Ireland’s lived experience has informed its view that these principles are highly relevant to international security and the discussion will explore how these lessons are pertinent to today’s global challenges.
