A STRATEGIC HORIZON: US, TURKEY, AND AFRICA - Join the Atlantic Council’s Turkey Program and Africa Center for a discussion on Turkey-Africa business and security ties and the role Turkish-American business partnerships can play in Africa’s economic development.
Turkey has been increasing its presence in Africa over the past two decades by opening embassies, building trade links and military bases, and investing in education and health initiatives. From its military presence in Libya to futuristic initiatives such as building a space base in Somalia, Turkey is doubling down on long-term involvement and investment on the African continent. For the United States, Turkey could be a valuable partner by providing credible alternatives to China’s actions and producing new viable foreign policy pathways in Africa. From resource development to security assistance, enhanced US-Turkey partnership could support more sustainable, transparent, fair, and economically advantageous development on the African continent.
