GENDER AND STRATEGIC COMPETITION - The Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative in the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, in partnership with Our Secure Future, hosted a public conversation on “Gender and Strategic Competition,” on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 1:30-2:30pm on Zoom. NATO Special Representative for Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Irene Fellin and H.E. Dame Karen Pierce, DCMG joined our distinguished panel of experts to discuss how to integrate the WPS agenda into strategic decision-making for a security environment defined by great power competition.
Amid all the uncertainty as the war in Ukraine enters its next phase, one thing is abundantly clear: the strategic environment has irrevocably changed. While the transatlantic community has come together in a stunning show of unity to address Russia’s invasion, challenges remain to managing escalation over the long term in both the European and Indo-Pacific theaters.
With the NATO Alliance’s new grand strategy freshly released and the US national defense strategy expected to shortly follow, now is the opportune time to reconsider how allies and partners can ensure commitments under the Women, Peace, and Security agenda are proactively integrated at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels.
The Atlantic Council and Our Secure Future were honored to welcome a distinguished panel of government officials and civil society experts to discuss the path forward.
