STRATEGIC BLINDSPOTS? ADVANCING GENDER IN US NATIONAL SECURITY STRATEGIES - The release of the US National Security and Defense Strategies (NSS and NDS) reflect that the United States and its allies and partners are entering a decisive decade. From the acute threat of Russia to the pacing challenge of China, it is clear that modern challenges to security require an integrated approach. One notable missing element from these defining strategies is the role gender plays in foreign and defense policy to help the United States achieve its goals and ensure collective security.
Xanthe Scharff, Co-founder and CEO of The Fuller Project, moderated a discussion on how applying a gender lens can contribute to integrated deterrence and the role of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in implementing the NSS and NDS.
