On August 6th, Ukrainian forces crossed into Russia's Kursk Oblast, breaking new ground in the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian commanders hope this move will shift the momentum of the war, but the Atlantic Council's Peter Dickinson writes that the tactic is more than just a military calculation. It's also a psychological blow to Russia, and could be a tactical move in more ways than one.
Dickinson writes, the advances are “spreading panic” in the region and “undermining Putin’s efforts to prevent the invasion of Ukraine from disrupting the daily lives of ordinary Russians.”
