GUATEMALA'S CHOICE: A CONVERSATION WITH PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SANDRA TORRES - Guatemalans will vote in less than one month for their next president. Sandra Torres, who will contend in the second round on August 20, will represent her party, Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza (UNE). Torres is a veteran politician who served as First Lady of Guatemala from 2008 to 2011 and has previously ran for president in 2015 and 2019.
What are Torres’ policy proposals to address Guatemala’s political and economic reality? How can trust be restored in Guatemala’s political and electoral systems? And what is needed from the international community in order to see a free and fair electoral process on August 20?
Ahead of Guatemala’s runoff election, watch this conversation hosted by the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center.
