RECOMMENDATIONS FOR US POLICYMAKERS TO COMPETE WITH CHINA’S 5G AMBITIONS - The Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub hosts a conversation on how US policymakers can pursue better strategies to counter China’s ambitions in the global 5G market.
Beijing is competing for geopolitical 5G leadership, particularly by promoting spectrum bands that can be harmonized with Chinese equipment in the Global South to set global spectrum standards. China’s strategic approach to international spectrum policies has increasing implications for downstream innovation and will affect US competition with China in emerging markets. In this event, our panel will explore the issue of wireless spectrum allocation within the geopolitical framework of US-China competition, connecting the technical conversation of 5G and spectrum with the broader discussion on addressing China’s ambitions to dominate emerging technologies.
This panel identifies strategies to counter China’s efforts to set global spectrum standards, particularly in the Global South, and to help the US elevate its competitiveness in the global 5G market.
