ONE YEAR LATER: VENEZUELA’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND THE ROAD AHEAD - Join the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center for a one-hour virtual, public event on the current state of play in Venezuela.
One year on, Venezuela remains mired in repression, economic uncertainty and a stagnant political crisis. The United States recently secured the release of ten detained Americans and dozens of Venezuelans in exchange for El Salvador repatriating 252 Venezuelans held at its maximum-security detention center. However, arbitrary detentions in Venezuela continue even as other political prisoners are released.
Amid changing conditions, how can Venezuelan opposition actors and US policymakers recalibrate their approach? This event will assess how recent developments have reshaped prospects for a democratic opening as key domestic and international actors weigh their options.
Hear from members of the Venezuelan democratic opposition, civil society, and the international policy community on what options exist for a path forward in the country.
