COUNTERING CHINA AND RUSSIA IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN - Join the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, and the Global China Hub for a conversation on how the United States and its allies and partners can counter Chinese and Russian malign influence in the western hemisphere.
Strategic competition has intensified in recent years, with much focus being paid to the frontline regions of Europe and the Indo-Pacific; however, China and Russia have also sought to deepen their influence much closer to the United States, in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Unfortunately, the US approach to the region has too often been marked by strategic errors. Beijing and Moscow have taken advantage of this, and a strategy for countering their malign influence is urgently needed.
To address this challenge, the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center launched an eighteen-month project with the aim of providing an actionable and effective strategy for navigating strategic competition in Latin America and the Caribbean.
