Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, more than 19,000 children have been abducted by Russia and taken to Russia and Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory.
Mykola Kuleba and his nonprofit Save Ukraine work to return Ukraine's children to Ukraine and have been the only organization able to successfully rescue children forcibly deported by Russia. In February, the group brought their stories to the US, speaking before the US Helsinki Commission and other bodies to emphasize the ongoing need for American aid.
In the first episode of the series "In Focus: Voices from Ukraine", the Atlantic Council spoke with Kuleba and Ksenia Koldin, a young Ukrainian who was taken to Russia, about her experience and the organization’s critical work.
