As G7 leaders gather on Friday, it will come as no surprise that Russia, a former member that got the boot when it invaded Crimea in 2014, will be a major topic of conversation. Neils sits down with Josh on the latest episode of Guide to the Global Economy to chat about G7 countries are still exporting to Russia and what they can slash to further isolate Moscow. As the saying goes: if you're not at the table, you're on the menu.
Mrugank fills Josh in on the new economic focus of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)—traditionally a forum for East and Central Asian countries to coordinate on traditional security issues, borders, trade, etc. But as US sanctions have tightened around Russia, Moscow is turning to the SCO to discuss balance of payments, currency composition of trade—hardcore geoeconomic issues that have become fundamental to their foreign policy.
