ATLANTIC COUNCIL LIVE FROM COP26: PAVING THE WAY WITH CLIMATE INNOVATION - The Atlantic Council Global Energy Center hosted on November 3, 2021, a special edition of Atlantic Council Live from COP26 on the role of technological innovation in securing the net-zero, climate-resilient global economy of the future.
The conversation featured expert perspectives from His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the UAE’s Special Envoy for Climate Change and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Bill Gates, founder of Breakthrough Energy and co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Secretary John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate; and Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Kenya. Moderator Frederick Kempe, President and CEO of the Atlantic Council, joined the panelists live from the UAE Pavilion in Glasgow.
After much anticipation, world leaders converged in Glasgow for the 26th Conference of Parties. Leveraging the strength of global partnerships is critical to addressing the needs of the dual climate and COVID-19 crises, and innovation is key to meeting the moment. As the world looks on, decision-makers will chart the path forward to realize the climate future necessary for the social, environmental, and economic well-being of the global community. This panel discussion provided a glimpse into the state of negotiations and identified next steps for climate innovation.
The discussion featured the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate), a joint initiative by the United States and the United Arab Emirates with support from more than 30 countries. The initiative was launched at COP26 on November 2 and seeks to drastically accelerate investment into food systems and agricultural innovation over the next five years.
