DEBRIEFING GERMANY’S FEDERAL ELECTIONS 2025 - Germany’s federal elections have come at a critical time, among shifting political tides across Europe and major geopolitical trends. The next German government will have to consider the future of support for Ukraine, adapting policy toward China, measures to rev up Germany’s flagging economy, and rewiring its foreign policy priorities. This will also take place against the backdrop of the beginning of the second Trump administration in the United States, which brings with it its own questions about the future of the transatlantic alliance and the state of US-Germany relations.
