EUROPE'S CLEAN ENERGY SUPPLY CHAIN DILEMMA - As Europe rapidly deploys clean energy technologies to reduce reliance on Russian gas and meet net-zero targets, China’s commanding position within the value chain for critical raw materials and clean energy technologies suggest that the lessons of overreliance learned from Russia’s energy weaponization should be kept front-of-mind. However, Europe's pursuit of energy security by decarbonization could prove much more difficult without engaging Chinese suppliers, especially given China's strong trade relationships with European partners.
How can Europe navigate the supply chain challenges posed by rapid decarbonization at the same time it aims to diversify and build capacity across clean energy supply chains? How should the transatlantic alliance work together to engage China, third countries, and each other in the deployment of clean energy in pursuit of energy security and climate goals?
